Good Monday morning to all you critter and land loving folks. Chores and night checking is what our days and nights have been filled with this past week. We have been keeping close tabs on our Jersey heifer at our house as we were both sure she was starting to bag up over the past weeks. About three days ago I started to notice a larger bulge under her belly, of course, we became concerned enough to seek out a second opinion come Saturday knowing the vet would be out of the office soon. Clay called our small town vet who has been here over multiple decades. Just a few questions later, our beef cow minds were put to ease as he explained it was an edema. Very common in dairy heifers and that we had little to worry about. He knew the exact location of where we were concerned and breed and he was spot on with his help. Every small town needs a Dr. like that for their critters, we are so very lucky!
There is not much else to report, except that my seven year old is sure I am a liar. As you all know tomorrow is the first day of spring…well, almost twenty inches of snow in the past four days has made him come to the conclusion I have no idea what I am talking about. Because anyone that is almost done with the first grade can tell you what we are looking at outside our window isn’t spring. I am sure it is the first time he has ever been challenged to care what season it is, thanks a bunch school curriculum, and sweet seven-year-old boy of mine…welcome to South Dakota spring. Someday soon it will be green, blessings to you, yours, and your operation.
