Good Monday morning to all you critter and land loving folks. They are in the pickup, the rhino, on the kitchen counter, and in the window- sill, and yet at least once a week I get asked, “Where are the binoculars?”. It is the original barn camera, an old- fashioned staple on our operation. My daughter was super fortunate and won herself two heifers last year, lucky girl!!! One is close to calving and there sit the binoculars on my bedroom window- sill so I can peek down to the barn and check on that girl. We are just super thankful she didn’t decide to drop that baby in the freezing cold we had last week. Growing up I can remember a pair of binoculars always set on my grandparent’s kitchen table, there to give the cows a quick check. Also, I am certain these binoculars kept tabs on me and my dating days as well. If Clay and I arrived home just ahead of my parents, we used to make a bet how long it would be until the land line would sound off, and my grandma was certainly on the other end checking in on us! I knew I was very loved, and I sure hope my parents realized the parenting benefits of living on a multi-generation property. I also knew I was in good company when I first sat down at my in-law’s kitchen table and there in the window facing the barn…you got it, a trusty pair of binoculars, still there today, love it! So, if cameras aren’t what your operation is ready for yet, binoculars have been saving many steps for lots of years!
P.S. Grandma, thanks for keeping track of me and loving me well!
Blessings to you, yours, and your operation.
