Good Monday morning to all you critter and land loving folks. We are just about to wrap up lambing for the year, and it is so fun to see all the babies out on green grass. We range lamb, so besides looking at things several times a day, it is pretty hands off and we just keep a count of what is hitting the ground. I will have to keep an eye on any set of twins for the next few weeks just to make sure none of them is getting bummed. I realized this week that I am not really running a ranch operation, but more of a petting zoo when I addressed all critters by name, but maybe some of you had come to that conclusion about me before I did…I was amused by myself, and only slightly glad no one else could hear me carry on with my first name basis greetings. I was cheering on one of my favorite “lost cause” sheep as she had dropped a beautiful baby in the early morning. She does have a name, Peg, she had been stepped on as a lamb by a cow and broke a front leg. She would have been tossed out in some places, but I am a sucker for a challenge, so my mom and I took to wrapping her leg, and yesterday my mom and I relished in watching her catch back up with the flock with the second lamb she has added to the operation by her side. A small win, but it sure made us both smile.
Blessings to you, yours, and your “lost cause” critter.
