Good Monday morning to all you critter and land loving folks. We officially wrapped up our summer grazing season on Saturday and sent cows down the road. These girls will go on to graze in Montana and then be sold. We were happy to hear they had gained, but we decided our real win this grazing season was we didn’t doctor one cow for pink eye or foot rot, and they had not received pour-on coming in. This is one of those regenerative nerd wins that I want to shout to the world, when I say regenerative nerd, I am totally just referencing myself. I can get excited that I consider the health of the herd money in my pocket and money in the pocket of the cattle owners. In mentioning the cattle owners, I have also been tossing this thought around for several days, the owners were my in-laws. I am going to throw them under the bus here, I don’t think I ever mention that the custom cattle we brought in this year belonged to another Conry. in agriculture I would venture to say we have opportunities to be in business with folks who share our last name. Some of you may feel you don’t have any other choice, but in this case, it was a choice on both sides, and I just have to say I am grateful. I think at the end of day it was probably more work for them to bring cattle to us for ninety days, they could have taken the easy road, they could have written that check to someone else. Instead, they chose us, they trusted us with their investment, and I hope doing business with us was and is in the future profitable for them. My thinking is that whomever you are currently working with, tell them you are grateful for the opportunity, they may share your last name, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t find other folks to do business with…this might not be uplifting this morning and it might even offend. It may be the most awkward thing you do this month, say what you mean, and say it out loud, and let it be thank you, and maybe even I love you and love ranching with you.
